As part of the regular field walks organized jointly with the Community Archaeology Association, we held an event that focused on the medieval heritage of the Pilis region and explored the forts and castles in the area. Monuments in different conditions, from abandoned ruins frequented by hikers to renovated castles turned into tourist attractions, present an invaluable insight into the possibilities of heritage presentation, adaptation and use. Such events are pivotal in exploring together with the wider public the regulations and the possible trajectories the history of a monument can take, and in facilitating bottom-up initiatives to utilize already standing monuments in ways that suit the needs of local communities.
