The third Observatory Case of Open Heritage is Largo Residências. A cooperative-run hotel, hostel and community venue, Largo has been an important platform for discussions of the future of the Intendente neighbourhood. Now under massive pressure from real estate development projects related to tourism and secondary homes, Largo employs and involves many local residents and plays a crucial role in supporting local communities to resist and remain connected to the neighbourhood. We spent three days in Lisbon, interviewing protagonists of Largo Residências as well as researchers, politicians and policymakers about Largo’s model and its impact in the city.
